Your church MUST be posting Reels.

Here’s why:

  • Reels are the #1 way to reach new people on Instagram at the time of this writing
  • Reaching more people online can be easy & free
  • Your church will need to learn to make them at some point - might as well start now
  • If you want to reach the “younger” generations they are used to this type of content

So what’s stopping you?

If coming up with Reels ideas is stopping you, then this post is for you!

Second, go follow the 16 Instagram profiles below to get inspired! There are 10 churches to follow and 6 other types of religious accounts and people.

I chose only churches and people that are utilizing Reels really well. There are examples of small and large churches so you can see the difference of what people are coming up with.

Go through the list below, check out the example’s I pulled from each church and my reasons for why I put them on this list.

Church To Follow #1: @soconn.church

This non-denominational church in Connecticut does a great job posting tons of trending Reels, plus trying their own new ideas. I love that they get content out there and don’t worry about it being 100% “perfect”.

You get an authentic vibe when you scroll through their feed and can feel the personality behind their church.

I also love the simplicity and clarity of their bio. It makes it easy to understand from first glance who they are and how to get involved.

Church To Follow #2: @bldg_28_church

This non-denominational church in Florida was on my list last year and on it again because of their creativity. They’ve got great Reels, try new trends and keep it simple. Definitely get some inspiration from them!

Their bio is clear so you know how to get to their church and their highlights are a great model to copy as well. I love having a full set of highlights because it makes it easy to find what you are looking for and helps your stories to live longer than 24 hours!

Church To Follow #3: @soulcitychurch

Soul City Church is in Illinois and has got some style. They do these sweet animated text Reels, which may be a little more complicated than some other types of Reels but if you’ve got someone who can make these, it’s a brilliant idea to go with.

Their Reels highlighting their services go perfectly with the audio they choose and they flash a graphic in between the video clips, so easy and such a great idea to make their Reels more eye-catching.

Church to Follow #4: @soco.church

If you are going for style, this is the church to follow.

Although good aesthetics aren't necessary to make an impact on Instagram, I do love Soco Church’s vibes. They’ve got the black and white with a pop of color, all their photos are perfectly edited… I appreciate it.

Their Reels are simple and show what their church is like.

Church to Follow #5: @txcelebration

Celebration Church in Austin, Texas is one of my favorite churches to follow. Their Instagram is a great example especially for Reels!

They do fun trends that fit their church’s personality plus Reels that show their church, worship and Pastors messages. They do a good variety of types of Reels and get creative with it too.

They often use trending sounds for their Reels that show their church instead of a random audio, which helps their Reels to get more reach.

I also commend them for utilizing Instagram guides to share testimonies, help people to find community and to highlight the last 10 years of their church.

Church to Follow #6: @freedomcentre.nz

Freedom Centre church does a good job of putting themselves out there with Reels!

This Reel above did really well which is so cool because it’s a powerful video. They used a trending audio for it and reached so many people!

They’ve saved up a bunch of trends and got different members of their church to do them which is a great idea to get started with Reels. Great job friends.

Church to Follow #7: @freedomchurch

Does this Reel not make you laugh out loud?!

Love the creativity. The humor. And their consistency with Reels.

Consistency wins. They show that when you stick with the Reels and you’ll get better and better and it will be worthwhile.

Their community is really engaged and connecting with what they are putting out there. Great example.

Church to Follow #8: @cityhopelive

I came across this Reel and thought it was a great way to promote groups in a fun way. Caught my attention.

They use a variety of post types as well like video animations and photo carousels that do really well too. Get inspired.

Church to Follow #9: @weareradiant

I love this style of Reels for churches. Use a quote or scripture and add a motion background with some trending audio.

It is fairly easy, people don’t need to be in it and people love to save and share this type of Reel because it is inspiring and encouraging.

Your video doesn’t need to be that fancy, you can even take a video of some scenery on your iPhone and call it a day.

Radiant is consistent with their Reels, they do some trends, behind the scenes and message quotes. Their message quote Reels perform really well, so they’ve leaned into that!

For those types of Reels it is all about which part of the message is chosen for the quote, pay attention to the types of quotes they use when choosing your own.

Church to Follow #10: @watermarkchurch

I love that this Reel is educational and fun. What a great way to talk about Easter that goes deeper than “come to our Easter service”.

Watermark has a lot of other unique Reels as well that are helpful to their community like “the gospel in 60 seconds”. I love how they add value to their community through their content.

That is the goal.

If you want trending Reels ideas and a good laugh, Anointed, a Christian Community Instagram page is on it.

They have sweet faith based products and kill it on Reels, especially the lip syncing ones!

Check out their inspiring captions and how their Reels hook you in and make you want to watch more.

Profile to Follow #12:@the_wild_pursuit

This Christian Community Instagram focuses on Reels with quotes from preachers with motion backgrounds.

Take a look at all the Reels and you will see how well this style of Reels performs on Instagram.

Encouraging and inspiring people with the truth is engaging. Try some Reels like these ones!

I had to put Pastor Craig Groeschel on here because he isn't the person you would think would get into Reels in the way he has. Maybe you’d think his church would create super professional looking videos for him to post on his personal page.

But that's not the strategy he took. He goes for personal, authentic and unedited for a lot of his Reels and he and his team started doing simple motion background Reels as well because they realized those perform well.

He does a lot of Reels like the one above with him talking or encouraging the church, which is a great model for Pastors.

Jenessa Wait sells hand-lettered Christian home decor and does a variety of Reels: lip syncing, preacher voice overs and tips for Christians.

Her community likes the longer captions with encouragement, which is a great style of caption to try.

She adds value to her community in every single post which is why I think her Instagram is a great example for churches to pull inspiration from.

Profile to Follow #15:@joechristianguy

Joe has half a million followers on TikTok and 24 million likes on TikTok on his posts. He posts some of his best performing TikToks on Instagram Reels. He does a lot of hilarious Christian content.

You should all just follow him for yourselves and to brighten your day.

What you can glean from him is how well entertaining content does on TikTok and Instagram Reels and how mixing in some entertaining Reels is a good idea for your church.

Profile to Follow #17: @jonjorgenson

This is the Teaching & Creative Pastor at Soul City Church. He has a great Instagram account model.

The quotes chosen for his message quotes are good choices which is why they perform well on Reels. He also does carousel posts on different topics, which is a great model of how to use Instagram for a Pastor. He uses super simple black and white text so it’s not complicated - but clear.

He also posts his family in between which makes him relatable, authentic and easy to connect with on Instagram.

Conclusion
